Quick Checklist

After todays media lesson I have decided to make a checklist on what needs to be done
  • Discussed genre of film - done
  • Discussed location for film - done
  • Procudtion Team List - done
  • Cast - not done
  • Location shots - done
  • Tidy up blog - done
  • Response from surveyors - collected
  • Filming - not done

Questionnaire Results - Synopsis Response

Now that we found out other title sequence response I gave our synopsis to the surveyors so they could comment on them here is what the said

These results show that our synopsis for our film would be a film that both males and females would watch. Some of the surveyors said that our synopsis needed more work but only at the ending of the film, so we have a very positive response for our film

Questionnaire Results - Favourite Title Sequences

After collecting information from my friends and family I have my group now has some tips on how to make our title sequence look attractive

These results show that both males and females like Finchers 'Se7en' title sequence more than Snyders 'Dawn Of The Dead' and Carpenters 'Halloween'.

These results show that out of those title sequences most females between 19-29 would watch those types of film while most males between 30-44 would watch those types of film.

Now our main priority is tho create an opening sequence that more males between 19-29 and females 30-44 would watch

 Synopsis

1 Serial killer is currently on the loose, his victims are found with multiple stab wounds and the bodies burned. Police autopsy's claim that there is no possible suspects and it’s just 'another psycho with a knife'.  Another body is found in the woods found with the same 'trademarks' as the ones before, a cop called Jason Summers starts to investigate deeper into these murders he discovers that the victims were more 'closer to home' than he thought and one by one the his squadron start to end up in this murders.

Further investigation finally reveals the killers motive, his motive being that this person has a personal vendetta against the police authority and is taking out the officers responsible for his mother and fathers deaths.

Just as he finds the location the serial killer catches on and appears at the police station looking for Jason but for a different reason. The twist being Jason and the killer are related and the killer is 'just trying to fulfill a promise'. Jason is then bought in by the killers’ ways and follows in his plans. Jason and the killer are now on a rampage 'fulfilling this promise’; on the final kill Jason betrays the killer and kills him. Jason is then seen being put into a mental asylum and the film ends.

Target Audience - Halloween

This is a demographic breakdown of Carpenters (Halloween)

Like Finchers (Se7en), this movie got the certificate 18+, unlike (Se7en) viewers who were 18 and over in general gave the movie a lower rating than those who saw (Halloween) at a younger age.

Target Audience - Se7en

This is a demographic breakdown that displays the viewrs rating of Fincher's (Se7en)

The certification for (Se7en) in the UK was an 18+, as the graph shows most males and females between the ages of 18 and 29 gave a high rating for this movie. As the age range increases (Se7en) got a lower rating.

Although the certificate was an 18+ teenagers who were underaged still found a way to see (Se7en) and both genders gave the movie high ratings

Other Examples Of Opening Sequences

David Fincher - Se7en (1996)

Since we have decided to have movie on a serial killer i have looked and analysed other opening sequnces that fit oue genre. The opening sequence of Fincher's (Se7en)is shown in a montage of John Doe (Kevin Spacey) preparing his series of kills. Having this makes viewers want to find out what and who was the person in the montage and how willhe kill his victims.

John Carpenter - Halloween (1978)

This is another example of an opening sequence, Carpenters (Halloween) starts of with symbolic images associated with halloween. The soundtrack in the background keeps its viewers in suspense. The main downside to this sequence compared to (Se7en) is that it dragged on so some viewers would get bored just by watching the opening sequence.

Possible Title Ideas

In this media lesson we have been discussing the story and how the movie will be filmed.
We got all the ideas down just trying to figure out what the title for the sequence will be called.

Possible Ideas:
  • Twisted Kinship
  • A Family Business
More ideas will be on the way

Synopsis

We decided not to go with a zombie horror movie so we decided to go with a serial killer instead.

1 Serial killer is currently on the loose, his victims are found with multiple stab wounds and the bodies burned. Ideas 1 / Title Sequemce Analysis

After discussing in class we have decided to do a horror movie
We looked at other opening sequences and decided to introduce it with a montage

The Dawn Of The Dead has an interesting opening sequence because it has contrapuntal music played with the chaos that is happening on screen. We liked the way that the music fitted so well with the scene. We also like the montage of zombies which kind of tells a story. The way the credits come up between different shots and screen fades in and out to black is a very effective use of editing. At the beginning of sequence there is a press conference and whenever the man is asked a question about the zombies he replies "We don't know". This shows straight from the beginning how out of control the situation has already become. Its good how the different news clips show that its world wide chaos. A lot of the opening clips are show in first person and the zombies attack the camera's which shows us a sense of realism and makes the sequence more shocking. When the credits appear they are made to look like blood which is also an effective style of writing.
